is the goal of the event ?
We are trying to create a cozy space and a welcoming weekend concept event for the people of Geneva who are looking for light in the chilly and dark winter months.
We want to raise sustainability awareness through aesthetics and lifestyle curating: we offer the possibility for each vendor to host a mini workshop showcasing her process, explaining the core values of the business, hosting a talk about a topic they love etc. This festival is a platform for creativity, sharing, inspiration and european based entrepreneurship.
We encourage slow interiors, slow fashion, slow living and changing consumer habits one step at a time.
We aim for our event to also have a social impact (we are giving back to local charities and bringing them visibility by making their wares ‘trendy’ for a younger audience through our event) but zero emissions, plastic free and a minimized waste-friendly environment.
we are bringing together inspiring projects in one communal concept, promoting local nordic inspired entrepreneurs and creatives as well as inviting special guests directly from Scandinavia
organising this event and what is the motivation?
so, my name is camille and i’m a french & irish digital storyteller & creative entrepreneur. i have been working in my chosen field in switzerland for over 2 years, and i studied architecture originally. i grew up in california but have been living in geneva for 10 years now! i think all this traveling has inspired me to continue exploring …which led me to falling in love with the copenhagen lifestyle.
I have always wished to move to danemark, but for the time being, i will try to bring a piece of danemark to me!
thanks to all the inspiring people around me, together we are launching the winter edition of Switzerland’s first sustainable lifestyle festival, inspired by the Scandinavian way of life.
I discovered this nordic living inspiration during my travels as a young architecture student in Northern Europe and on subsequent times when i returned to visit my swedish, finnish, norwegian and dear danish friends i met during those travels.. I think this love of Northern Europe also came about through exposure to nordic design through the visual wonder that is instagram, which is how i discovered most of our partners work.
The festival I am organising is called ‘’Northern Lights Fest’’. It is a curated event, a pop concept festival, created with my europe-wide network of passionate people who have inspired me everyday through their businesses. I aim to bring together people from very different areas and show people different sides of Scandinavian life:
- through fermentation classes
- kombucha making
- zero-waste workshops
- a kiddie corner and child friendly activities
- coffee from april coffee Danemark
- specialty mikkeller brews
- swissmade danish pastries
- tasty vegan food (we are reinterpreting swedish meatballs and cranberry sauce but made with swiss products!)
- we will show local artwork as well as danish artists like Mai britt wolthers
- we will have a pop up bakery
- a scandic electro-hyyge brunch
- local illustrators
- Various designers
- slow fashion sponsored by the red cross and styled by a swiss stylist and a californian photographer
- we will show how to sustainably shop for small gifts
- We will host an open mic hour and host poetry circles
- Create a platform for discussions about northern culture and
- host educational talks showing how sustainable habits are easy to put into place with seasonal living in mind, through aesthetics and ethics, inspired by nordic living.
The list goes on..the idea is to offer a space where there is something for everyone to leave happy and inspired.
It will be held on the 15th and 16th of December and we want to showcase many entrepreneurs and creatives from Geneva who have been inspired by their experiences of beautiful Scandinavia, who want to present their vision of slow design, slow fashion, slow food and slow living through their business and production processes.
the event space look like?
The event space is an old industrial style mechanics repair garage that was transformed only a few months ago by B29 architects into a food truck concept garage. It is a building from 1954 and it is a lovely 160 sqm interior space in the heart of Plainpalais, with 50 sqm of outdoor space. we are creating a total event concept and want to make this space absolutely beautiful! the idea is that everything can be experienced and also purchased. I predict that the street where the event will be held could be the future ‘stefansgade’ or ‘josefstrasse’ of suisse romande, and maybe even the future design district of Geneva. We are partnering during our event with a brick and mortar store down the street called Caillou shop. They stock mostly scandic and local design brands. We are also graciously sponsored by Oatly.
much love and tak se mykket!
